5 professional contracts in 5 years for the Oaklands Wolves Football Academy!

Oaklands Wolves Men's Football Academy: A Legacy of Excellence

Oaklands Wolves Men’s Football Academy continues its track record of excellence, with John Shamalo becoming the latest graduate to secure a professional contract. Shamalo signed with Barrow AFC on 10th January 2025, with the club describing him as a "promising young striker" in their official statement.

To put this into perspective, a typical football academy at this level would expect to produce just one professional contract every three to five years. Based at Oaklands College, the programme has consistently proven its ability to develop athletes who excel both on and off the pitch.

A Proven Track Record of Success
Over the years, the men’s football academy has achieved remarkable milestones:

  • Six League Titles: The team has showcased dominance on the field with six league titles, solidifying its place as a top-performing academy in the region.
  • Pathway to Professional Football: More than 150 players have progressed into non-league football at steps 2 to 5. Additionally, six players have advanced to professional football, with over ten alumni making their mark as professional coaches.
  • Expert Coaching: The programme is led by UEFA-qualified coaches, whose expertise ensures that each athlete receives world-class training and guidance.

Alumni Success Stories

Mamadou Jobe
Mamadou Jobe signed for Cambridge United in 2020. The 21-year-old defender was signed by the U’s from Royston Town and has since built up his experience whilst out on loan, moving up the divisions at every stop. In June 2024, Cambridge United announced that Mams had signed a new three-year contract. Garry Monk commented, “We are all delighted that Mamadou has chosen to continue his journey with Cambridge United. Mamadou showed at the end of last season he is ready to impact his potential on the team. As a Club it is important that we retain our talented young players and continue to develop them both on and off the pitch.”

Jaden Ogwuazor
Jaden Ogwuazor signed for Stevenage in 2021. Following two years at Stevenage, in September 2023, Jaden made another leap and signed for Championship side QPR. He’s currently on loan to Bishop’s Stortford, managed by our very own Steve Castle. Steve added, “Jaden is naturally gifted with a good left foot, he has so many good attributes. If and when they all come together, he’ll become a brilliant and well sought-after footballer.”

Deivi Kreka
Deivi Kreka signed for Aldershot in 2022. A former Oaklands Student of the Year, Deivi was also shortlisted by AoC alongside six other students from across the country for the 16-18 Young Student of the Year Award. He has also represented his native Albania on the international stage throughout all youth levels.

Gus Scott-Morriss
Gus Scott-Morriss signed for Southend in 2022. The dynamic wing-back netted five league goals in 35 appearances in his first season at the Club, going on to notch eight more last term. Believe it or not, he’s currently the top goal scorer at Southend with 10 goals in the 2024/25 season and is only five goals away from being the league’s top goal scorer—and he’s a defender! In July 2024, Southend announced that the 2023/24 Supporters’ Player of the Season, Gus Scott-Morriss, signed a new contract to remain at Roots Hall, the home of Southend United, until June 2026. Gus has also impressed on the international stage with two caps for England C.

Holistic Development
The academy’s approach goes beyond technical skills, focusing on creating well-rounded individuals. Through personalised coaching and tactical training, players are equipped with the tools they need to succeed in competitive environments.
