Progress and Recognition for Construction Centre at St Albans Campus

Oaklands College recently celebrated a major milestone with the Construction Development Ceremony, marking progress on the new Construction Centre. The event showcased advancements, offering a glimpse into the campus's future.

The celebration highlighted the centre’s evolution from initial concepts to tangible structures, providing invaluable insights into future facilities. Approximately 50 esteemed guests, including the Mayor and the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, attended, emphasising the collective vision and commitment to advancing construction education.

The High Sheriff, Annie Brewster, said: “Two words that are important to me are ambition and excellence, and Oaklands have shown both these qualities.”

The Construction Centre aims to create a 3,000m² building that will provide modern teaching facilities for the construction skills curriculum.

Claire Dolan, Deputy Principal Strategy, Partnership, and Business Development at Oaklands College, said: “We are very proud of this project, which will provide construction students with new fit-for-purpose teaching facilities”.

“This building project forms part of a wider, £62m multi-phase redevelopment of the college’s main campus in St Albans in which we are entirely transforming the campus to create a centre of excellence for learners, whether that be young people on their academic qualification journey or those equipping themselves with the best business and vocational skills to excel in the workplace.”

Construction is a growing industry in the UK, producing many highly skilled jobs. The project aims to help create jobs within St Albans for future generations, using sustainable and cutting-edge practices, including being one of the first in the UK to use bricks made from fully recycled materials.
