Gus studied BTEC Sport but had fallen out of love for football when he joined Oaklands back in 2013. The academy helped put a smile back on his face and it all started going onwards and upwards from that point. He left college as 2014-15 season's captain & top goal scorer.
Steve Castle, head of Wolves Football Academy, then offered him a coaching role at the academy whilst playing part time for Royston Town. During the pandemic he joined Hemel Hempstead, before joining Southend in 2022.
Gus regularly checks in at the college to see how our squads are getting along and offers a few words of wisdom to our student/athletes. "I remembers reaching 16 and not being at a professional academy" he thought his chance of making it pro had gone. "My first professional contract came almost 10 years after thinking it's too late to make it. There's no such thing as too late, unless you got grey hair, get your head down and work your socks off, the rest will come" he tells our students every time he's here.
During his spell at Southend United, Gus has also represented the three lions National squad C twice, he added "up there with the highlights of my career so far". Here's to many more appearances for Southend who he wishes to see climb up the leagues, "it's a massive club, a special club for me and one I really want to help climb up the leagues"
