You will sit various in-class assessments throughout the two years of your study including practical experiments, leading up to formal exams at the end of the second year.

About the course

A Level Biology is a wide ranging course in which you will learn about all of the following: cell biology, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology, genetics, ecology and evolution, developing a variety of transferable skills including: investigative, problem solving, research, decision making, mathematical and analytical skills. The course covers a wide variety of concepts such as: - Life and living organisms, including their physical structure, chemical processes, molecular interactions, physiological mechanisms, development and evolution. - Energy transfers in and between organisms; how organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environment; genetics; the control of gene expression; evolution and ecosystems.

Career options

Biology is an important fundamental science. It is an appropriate choice for those considering careers in ecology, physiotherapy, medicine, veterinary science, biological sciences, food science, teaching and many others.
