Entry requirements

A minimum of 6 GCSEs grade 5 or above which must include English & maths and a grade 6 in subjects specifically being studied.

Teaching staff

You will be taught by specialist English Language teachers who are experienced in teaching the A level specification and continue to attend training sessions which allow them to keep up to date with current changes and modes of thinking within examination boards.

You will be assessed through various class activities throughout the year and formal written exams at the end of the year, with an additional coursework element in the second year.

About the course

English Language explores how language works and the central role it plays in our everyday lives. You will explore a variety of language forms and genres. This could range from a script from Eastenders, an advert or a conversation in a bar to a short story, newspaper article or poem. You will also have the opportunity to produce your own pieces of original writing for particular purposes.

Career options

Most of our students go on to university. English Language is useful for a range of careers, for example, journalism.

A Levels can lead you onto many different career paths, including university to further develop your skills in your chosen subject(s).
