Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification although it is desirable that you have minimum numeracy and ICT skills at Level 1. You do not need prior knowledge of Accounting Software packages.

Assessment

All of the units will be externally assessed by OCR Examiner-moderators. Each of the units is assessed by means of OCR set & marked unit assignments, which will be taken at regular intervals throughout the course.

About the course

The course consists of 5 manual accounting units and two computerised accounting units. The computerised units are taught using the Sage Line 50 Accounting package.

Career options

You may be able to progress to the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting depending on your overall relevant skills and accounting work experience.

Course Content - What will I learn?

You will learn the basis and principles of bookkeeping and develop skills to carry out routine bookkeeping activities in manual and computerised forms. You will also gain an understanding of the importance of accuracy and use those skills to input and verify financial information. The manual accounting units are: preparing and processing bookkeeping documens; recording credit transactions; making and receiving payments; recording receipts and payments; maintaining petty cash records. The computerised accounting units are: record routine bookkeeping transactions using a computerised system; prepare and record sales and purchase documents uing a computerised system.
