Entry requirements

You'll need to have GCSEs at grade C/4 or above / Functional skills at Level 2 or above in either Maths or English or international equivalents. You can study a GCSE or Functional Skills in either Maths or English, if you do not have the grades. Prospective students should check the entry requirements of their preferred university to ensure the best possible opportunity for progression

Each unit is assessed through an assignment. This may be a piece of written work, controlled assessment or presentation. Most units are graded pass, merit or distinction. On completion the numbers of passes, merits and distinctions may be used to calculate a UCAS Tariff.

About the course

The Access to HE Diploma (Business) prepares adults (aged 19+ if non international) without traditional qualifications such as A Levels for those wanting to gain entry onto degree and other higher education programmes. The qualification is widely recognised by UK universities. It is made up of 60 credits, all studied at level 3, 45 graded and 15 ungraded, some for mandatory and some for optional units. All units need to be completed successfully to obtain the full diploma. In addition, Study Skills and workshops are part of the course. The diploma will introduce yous to different aspects of business studies allowing you to acquire basic understanding of key business concepts. In this pathway you will study Accounting, Economics, Human Resources, Marketing, Mathematics and Business Environment units, as well as Study Skills and ITC Word Processing. A strongly supportive tutorial and study skills system encourages the development of an autonomous and self-disciplined approach to learning as required by universities. This includes regular group and one-to-one tutorials to set and review targets and ensure sufficient progress is made. Career advice provided by personal tutors and the College Careers officers focus predominantly on university application, registration with UCAS and completion of the application form, as well as assistance with personal statement writing and advice on a range of higher education courses.

Career options

We have an excellent track record of student progression into universities. However, you will need to research courses carefully as some programmes have very specific entry. Learners on this programme have progressed to a range of undergraduate courses such as Accounting & Finance, Business Management, Economics, International Business, Marketing, Tourism Management and many others, at a range of UK universities as well as higher education providers in the USA, Australia, Switzerland and many others. You might also wish to consider the HNC / HND Diploma in Business at Oaklands College, then progress to a top up degree in your third year. Progression routes are into Business and Business Management degrees: BA (Hons) Business Management BA (Hons) Business Management (Leadership Practice) BA (Hons) Business Management (Innovation and Enterprise) BA (Hons) Business Management (Accounting) BA (Hons) Business Management (Marketing) There are also a number of apprenticeships which can be studied at higher levels. This Diploma could lead onto one of these apprenticeships, for example Project Manager.
