Assessment

All students work towards the Certificate in Functional Skill English at Entry 3 or Level 1 as appropriate. All Speaking and Listening is assessed internally by your tutor and externally by a moderator from the exam board. Entry 3 Reading and Writing assignments are paper based and assessed internally by your tutor in a less formal exam setting. Level 1 Reading and Writing assignments can be paper based or online and are externally assessed by the exam board. These are taken in a formal exam setting. Throughout the course your tutor will assess you informally through the completion of homework, online tasks and past papers.

Career options

After you complete Entry 3 or Level 1, you will take a diagnostic test to progress to the next level. You usually need to achieve 45% to progress to the next level. Students who complete Level 1 can also progress to GCSE the following year.
