- 48 UCAS Tariff points. - BTEC Level 3 qualification in Sport or Sport & Exercise Science. - GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. - GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above. - Access to Higher Education Diploma from an approved Further Education Institution. - relevant work experience, or an international equivalent to the above qualifications. Assessment

Throughout the programme, progress will be assessed in all areas via assignments, practical work, projects, and other activities. There will be an emphasis on your personal commitment to learning and you will be guided through enhancing your research and cognitive skills through projects you manage yourself. All units are assessed and graded as a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

About the course

Students will gain a wide range of coaching knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for a competence) and transferable skills. Transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are highly valued in higher education and the workplace.* *Subject to validation.

Career options

Graduates successfully completing the Higher National Certificate will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic concepts of Sport . They will be able to communicate accurately and appropriately and they will have the qualities needed for employment that requires some degree of personal responsibility. They will have developed a range of transferable skills to ensure effective team working, independent initiatives, organisational competence and problem-solving strategies. They will be adaptable and flexible in their approach to Sport, show resilience under pressure, and meet challenging targets within a given resource.

Our Sports courses will help you get to the ceiling of your ability and this could be Regional, National or even International level competition. You could also progress to University or into direct employment.

Course Content - What will I learn?

You will study a variety of units aiming o give you a holistic approach to coaching: Nutrition Fundamentals of Sport & Exercise Psychology Anatomy & Physiology Professional Skills Coaching Practice & Skill Development Training, Fitness, Testing Lifestyle Coaching Community Coaching
You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of different partners from local sports clubs to different leisure providers. You will get to work with stakeholders such as Hertfordshire Sports Partnership gaining experience working as a coach in the community. You will develop a variety of professional skills and competencies aimed at supporting you for progression into work or higher education.
