You will be assessed by putting together an assignment folder, there are no exams, instead you will be asked to produce posters, complete practical assessments, presentations and written assignments.

About the course

The Level 1 Diploma is a combination of practical skill sessions based on the Equestrian Centre, class based theory sessions and periods of work experience. The course is designed to give you an insight into the practicalities and realities of working within the Equine Industry. The course offers a range topic areas giving you an introduction to the personal, employability and vocational skills needed when working with horses

Career options

The course can lead you to progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Horse Care or employment within the equine industry.

For those of you wanting to go into employment, the aim of our Equine course(s) are to produce competent carers working with horses, with the potential to take up management positions after further experience.

Course Content - What will I learn?

You will learn about the daily care of horses and the skills needed in order to work in the equine industry, with a range of topics including: Caring for and feeding horses, Moving and accommodating horses, Keeping active and healthy, Being organised and Equitation. English and Maths- depending on grades you will either study towards Functional Skills and / or GCSEs. You are required to carry out Work Experience based within the Equestrian Centre throughout the year. You will also have weekly PDR sessions with your course tutor which will entail personal 1:2:1 sessions and lessons tailored around health, social, economic and welfare issues.
