Teaching staff

Oaklands boasts an impressive list of professional experts as part of their Sports team. All tutors have work experience in sport including physiotherapists , personal trainers and performance coaches. In addition, all staff are experienced lecturers in delivering BTEC courses.

Assessment

You will be assessed by putting together an assignment folder. There are no exams (apart from Functional Skills or GCSE). Instead, you will be asked to produce posters, complete demonstrations, presentations and practical sessions.

About the course

The course will provide a solid base in a number of areas that can be applied to many careers and further study, not just within the sports and leisure industries. In addition, all students will study Functional skills or GCSE Maths and English. The course involves a mixture of practical and classroom-based lessons and will support you to develop not only your knowledge within sport but develop your wider skills e.g. Team work and building confidence.

Career options

The course can lead you to progress onto the OCR Level 2 Technical Diploma in Sport, the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Public Services or employment in the sports industry such as a leisure or recreational assistant.

Our Sports courses will help you get to the ceiling of your ability and this could be Regional, National or even International level competition. You could also progress to University or into direct employment.

Course Content - What will I learn?

Throughout your study programme you will study the following aspect: BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure which covers units such as Working with Ohers, Researching a Topic, Assisting in a Sports Activity and Organising a Meeting. English and Maths 'depending on grades you will either retake your GCSE'S or functional skills. Work Experience 'you are required to complete a total of 10 hours of work experience throughout the year which are supported through two work experience units. Work experience cannot be paid work and must be relevant to the course you are studying. PDR 'you will have weekly PDR sessions with your course tutor which will entail personal 1:2:1 sessions and lessons tailored around health, social, economic and welfare issues.
All students will be required to undertake English and Maths qualifications at either GCSE level or at a relative Functional Skill Level. If part of an Academy you will be have training sessions and extra lessons around your Level 2 Sport and GCSE/Functional Skills.
