Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 - 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

Teaching staff

You will be taught by teachers with a range of experience in both site carpentry and bench joinery. All tutors are qualified carpenters from industry and have a varied range of skills in relation to carpentry & joinery.

About the course

The aim of the course is to put in place all the skills and knowledge that is required to become a good bench joiner. The course consists of multiple choice on-line exams two core units: Health & Safety in construction and Principles of Construction. Practical units: Know how to produce setting out details for routine joinery products. Know how to mark setting out details for routine joinery products. Know how to manufacture joinery products such as doors and stairs. Set up and use electrical carpentry tools such as a router and a circular saw.

Career options

On completion of the level 2 course you could progress onto a Construction Mangement course or onto a Level 2 Site Carpentry course. You could also progress to an Apprenticeship.

Many carpenters and joiners are self-employed. You could also find work with large construction companies, local authorities, shopfitting firms, or in set-building for theatre and television.

It is a necessary for learners to achieve a minimum of 90% attendance.
