Entry requirements

Assessment

You will create a portfolio of work that is assessed as you go throughout the year. You will develop your understanding of the media industry and the skills needed to be successful. During the course you will learn how to plan and produce a range of media products. Your Final Major Project at the end of the course which will determine your overall grade.

About the course

The Level 2 Diploma in Media Production and Technology (accredited by the University of the Arts London) provides opportunities for individuals intrigued and inspired by media to explore, develop and test their creativity within a structure that will provide a sound base of skills and knowledge, while enhancing self-confidence and revealing the potential career demands and opportunities within the sector. It draws upon established approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that are successfully proven to appeal to and engage students seeking practical study rather than a more academic study route. It is an enjoyable course that will enable students to learn a wide range of production techniques that will prepare them for the level 3 course and/or employment within the creative media industry.

Course Content - What will I learn?

You will learn about a range of media industries, which will include the study of Film & TV, the internet, sound recording and journalism. This will enable you to develop some of the skills required to work in these industries. You will learn to research, plan and produce media products as part of a creative team using industry standard software and equipment. You will improve your ability to work independently and as part of a team when you learn production skills whilst increasing your ability to communicate and to use IT and numerical skills. Film & TV Using industry standard camera equipment and software such as Canon XF100 cameras and Adobe Creative Cloud, you will embark upon a series of creative experiments that culminates in a several short film projects. In addition to this, you will learn how to write, plan and storyboard a story from script to screen. Audio Recording As an integral part of film & TV production, audio recording will play a significant role in the course content. In addition to learning how to properly record and edit dialogue and sound effects, you will undertake a specific sound industry related project. Interactive Media and Web Technologies You will plan, design and create a website and learn about a variety of interactive technology and techniques. Journalism Throughout the course you will have opportunities to study factual production techniques and produce written work in a range of journalistic styles. Industry and Context In addition to practical subject there you will learn about a variety of theoretical approaches to media and study the media industry as a whole and your place within it.
If you need to re-take your GCSE English or Maths this will be built into your timetable. As part of your course you are required to complete Work Experience.
