Assessment

In the Technical Level Qualification (TLQ's), you will be assessed through graded practical observations, external written exam and a final synoptic assessment. You are required to create a portfolio and complete creative research. The TLQ requires each student to have an employer observe them and give feedback on one assessment. This will be either formative or a graded practical assessment and feedback will be provided to the students using industry standards. Your final grade can be awarded as a Fail, Pass, Merit or Distinction.<p></p>

About the course

The Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Make up Artistry is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop practical skills in make up application and hairdressing. The following units are mandatory and must be completed to achieve the full qualification - Health safety and hygiene - Make-up applications - Tanning -Brow and Lash Treatments - Hair preparation services - Continuity planning for make-up services - Dress and finish hair services - Continuity hair services - Anatomy and physiology for make-up artists - Total look for competition work - Face Painting - Fashion and editorial make-up

To apply for this course you need to put in an application online and attend an interview. You may want to support this interview by producing a sketch book showing your interest and experience in Make-up and Hair. You may also be require to complete a interview task.

Our Hair and Beauty courses enable you to work in a wide variety of salons, nail bars, spas, cruise ships, or even work abroad in luxury resorts. Depending on the level you choose to study, we recommend that you carry on climbing the ladder within Oaklands, and then onto university or into employment.

You are required to purchase a Kit and uniform (approx. '400) that will provide you will all the equipment required to use in practical sessions and work experience. You are required to attend professional industry exhibitions and seminars to further your knowledge in the hair and make-up industry, this will be an additional expense. You will be required to purchase additional research material such as text books. You will need to show that you have developed your Maths and English skills whilst you are on the course. This may mean you sit GCSE' s or Functional Skills qualifications.
