Assessment

You will need to pass all the units to achieve the qualification. There are no exams and assessment takes the form of both practical assessment and written work.

About the course

The course is full time and lasts for one year. It provides a basic introduction to the study of music, including the music industry, performance, music theory knowledge and music production using technology.

Career options

The logical progression from this course is to move onto a BTEC National Diploma in either Music Technology or Music. Learners need to successfully complete this course to a merit level and pass functional skills to be considered for either of these two year courses.

All Music students develop experience and knowledge of how the music industry works.

Course Content - What will I learn?

You will have the opportunity to study a variety of units covering various aspects of including: Producing a Music Recording, Working in the Music Industry, Exploring Music Composition & Working as a Musical Ensemble. There is a Major Production Project that is equvalent to two units and provides learners with the opportunity to apply the skills they have developed in the planning and production of a final music project that could be a recording or a gig. Functional skills in English is also an integral and compulsorary part of the course, that aims to develop the skills of learners and help them develop the ability to study academically at a higher level.
if you need to do a retake in either English or Maths GCSE this will be built into your timetable. As part of your course you are required to complete work experience.
