Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 - 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

Teaching staff

You will be taught by teachers with a range of experience in both site carpentry and bench joinery. All tutors are qualified carpenters from industry and have a varied range of skills in relation to carpentry & joinery. The tutors are supported by technicians with relevant qualifications and industrial experience.

About the course

This course is designed to give learners their first experiences and insight into site carpentry. The aim of the course is to put in place all the skills and knowledge that is required to become a good site carpenter. It consists of two multiple choice exams: Health & Safety in construction & Principals of construction. The five practical five units: First fix, Second fixing, Floors and roof structures. Carry out maintenance, set up & operate circular saw.

Career options

On full completion of the level 2 course you will be guided, advised and invited onto either a Carpentry T Level qualification (dependent on GCSE levels in maths & English)

Many carpenters and joiners are self-employed. You could also find work with large construction companies, local authorities, shopfitting firms, or in set-building for theatre and television.

Course Content - What will I learn?

You will learn about the tools you use as a site carpenter (hand/power) and how to use them. The materials, the techniques, health & safety, the construction industry in general & employment rights (employee & employer). As part of the programme you will be required to undertake 40 hours of relevant trade related placement.
It is a necessary for you to to achieve a minimum of 95% attendance in order to pass with awarding body points scheme in place to ensure progress. You need to have minimum GCSE 3 grades in maths & English.
