A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 - 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.
You will be taught by teachers with a range of experience in both site carpentry and bench joinery. All tutors are qualified carpenters from industry and have a varried range of skills in relation to carpentry & joinery. The tutors are supported by technicians with relevant qualifications and industrial experince. Your NVQ qulification will be supported by an assessor who again comes from industry with the relevant qualifications and experiences.

Your technical certificate will be assessed by unit tests and a gola test at the end of the programme. There will also be a synoptic phase test for the practical component of the technical certificate. During the programme you will be formatively assessed on work produced, practical/theory, and there for the assessment process is ongoing at all times.
On full completion of the level 2 course you will be guided and advised onto a construction management course.
Many carpenters and joiners are self-employed. You could also find work with large construction companies, local authorities, shopfitting firms, or in set-building for theatre and television.
