Assessment

All learners at Oaklands College take part in an initial assessment in Maths and English. This helps us ensure that everyone reaches their full potential. During the course practical assignments are set which will test your knowledge and are used as evidence of achievement. The Diploma in Business, Level 2, is assessed by coursework, work related experience and two external examinations.

About the course

This one year course is designed for ages 16-19 and is an excellent starting point if you wish to pursue a career in business, retail, management, finance, or accounting. It is a practical, work-related course and you will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You will learn and practice professionalism, gain confidence and a clear understanding of the fundamentals of business, enabling you to progress your career in this sector. The course is ideal if you wish to develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the business sector. The content has been designed to give you opportunities to develop your transferable skills and it provides a platform for success within the business sector or elsewhere.

Career options

This qualification provides a fantastic progression pathway into a number of roles within an organisation, which are transferable across all businesses. Alternatively you could progress on to a Level 3 qualification in Business or choose to move onto an apprenticeship.

You will cover a broad range of business related topics including: Enterprise for Business - how trends and the current business environment may impacet a business, Finance for Business - understanding the costs involved and how businesses make a profit, Principles of Marketing - how businesses use market research to make amrketing decisions, Using Business Documentation, Introducing Retail Business, Principles of Customer Service, Recruitment, Selection and Employment - job roles and functional areas of a business
Alongside your course you'll study English and maths and take part in work placements to develop your skills and confidence.
