A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 - 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

Assessment

The pre-Access qualification has a single mandatory, graded unit which requires you to complete an extended project in your chosen sector or subject. You can then choose the remaining units from a range of optional ungraded units, selecting those that match your interests and best fit with your planned progression route.

About the course

The Pre-Access Certificate in Preparing for Further Study in Education is intended to support progression to an Access to HE Diploma in a related area. You will attend college one day per week. The Certificate will provide you with a firm foundation in terms of knowledge, skills and understanding of education, while at the same time giving you the opportunity to develop and practice your study skills. You will have the chance to practise producing written work in the format expected when progressing to an Access to HE Diploma and to experience the same approach to assessment, making you better prepared for further study.

Career options

Successdful completion of this course allows progression onto an Access to HE Diploma and ultimately potential progression to degree level studies in one of the following fields: Health 'Health and Related Health Professions 'Health and Social Care 'Health Professions 'Health Professions and Social Sciences 'Midwifery 'Nursing 'Nursing and Midwifery 'Nursing, Midwifery and Health Studies 'Paramedic studies 'Psychology and Counselling 'Psychology and Sociology 'Psychosocial Studies 'Science and Health Professions 'Social Science 'Social Studies 'Social Work 'Social Work and Related Professions.

On completing the Access course many of our students will continue their education at the University of Hertfordshire. Others choose to go further afield and continue their studies at various universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
