Entry requirements

You will need to satisfy the following minimum criteria: AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting or equivalent, ideally at Merit or Distinction level. GCSE grade C/4 in Maths and English or their equivalent. Achievement of Level 3 on the AAT Skillcheck. Experience of using Microsoft Excel is desirable as a significant knowledge of Excel functions is required. You must be able to dedicate time to home study- usually between 5-7 hours per week. After your application is processed you will be required to attend an interview with a course tutor.

Assessment

You will be assessed via Computer-Based Assessments (CBAs) set and marked by the AAT. There are 4 assessments: Business Awareness Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements Management Accounting Techniques Tax Processes for Businesses You will also be assessed on your use of spreadsheet functions in accounting via an on-demand downloaded test. This does not impact on your grade though you must pass it in order to pass the qualification overall. Results of assessments are usually available immediately afterwards except for the Business Awareness and Management Accounting Techniques which is provided 6 weeks afterwards.

About the course

This flexible course is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom. This Level 3 course is part of the Free Courses for Jobs initiative and is fully funded for eligible learners. Alternatively, you can apply for an advanced learner loan to cover the cost of studying this course. Please ask a member of college staff for more information. The Advanced qualification introduces more detailed financial tasks, including maintaining cost accounting records and preparation of reports and returns. You will also master a range of accounting disciplines from ethical practices for accountants to advanced bookkeeping. Study the Level 3 Diploma to learn higher accounting techniques and disciplines, and qualify for AAT bookkeeping membership (AATQB). Course start date is 23/09/2024 for daytime groups running from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm Course start date is 25/09/2024 for evening groups running from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm For both groups, classroom attendance is every week on Wednesdays.

Career options

This Level 3 Diploma provides progression to the Level 4 Professional Diploma in Accounting, which provides exemptions to those studying for the awards offered by the Chartered Accounting bodies (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, and CIPFA). The qualification is much valued by employers and thus its achievement provides opportunities for employment in accounting and finance roles. To progress to Level 4, you would be expected to pass Level 3 with Merit or Distinction, with a minimum of resits.

Course Content - What will I learn?

The course consists of four units covering the following topics: Business Awareness Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements Management Accounting Techniques Tax Processes for Businesses The course fee of '2573 covers the cost of tuition and first exam sitting.
The course fee does not cover the cost of any resit assessments, which are usually '50-'55 per unit. You will also have to purchase your own additional course books, which are around '21 per unit. You will also have to renew your AAT membership fees. The current rates can be found on the AAT website. Please note: you cannot sit the AAT exams if you are not a member of the Association.
