Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 9 - 4 including maths and English or a full Level 2 with a merit profile and grades 9 - 4 in English & maths.

Teaching staff

You will be taught by teachers with a range of experience in both site carpentry and bench joinery. All tutors are qualified carpenters from industry and have a varried range of skills in relation to carpentry & joinery. The tutors are supported by technicians with relevant qualifications and industrial experience.

There are four knowledge units and five practical assessments.

About the course

This is a one year full-time course building on the underpinning knowledge and skills developed at Level 2. It covers more complex carpentry activities such as fitting double doors, cut roof construction and operating fixed plant machinery.

Career options

On completion of the level 3 Site Carpentry you could progress onto Level 3 / 4 Construction Management course. You could enter employment in a supervisory role or move onto an Apprenticeship.

Many carpenters and joiners are self-employed. You could also find work with large construction companies, local authorities, shopfitting firms, or in set-building for theatre and television.

Course Content - What will I learn?

You will learn about building methods and construction technology, complex structural carcassing, transportable machinery, quantities & communication & information, safe working practices, maintaining structural & non structural components. You will be required to undertake 40 hours of work experience in a trade related placement.
It is a necessary for learners to achieve a minimum of 95% attendance in order to pass with awarding body points scheme (QCF credits) in place to ensure progress. You will also study Maths and English at the appropriate level for you.
