About the course

Enrolling now for a September 2025 start. The T Level in Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing offers a comprehensive introduction to the engineering industry, equipping learners with the technical skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a variety of engineering roles. This full-time, two-year course is designed in collaboration with employers, ensuring that students gain industry-relevant experience and are prepared for careers in the sector. What You'll Learn: The course combines classroom learning, practical workshops, and hands-on experience during a mandatory industry-based work placement. Key topics include: Mathematics and Science for Engineering and Manufacturing Mechanical, Electrical, and Mechatronics Principles Health & Safety Practices and Project Management Industry Placement: A critical element of the program is the 315-hour (approximately 45 days) industry placement over two years, allowing you to apply your learning in real-world settings and gain invaluable workplace experience. Course Structure: Year 1: Focus on core engineering knowledge, providing a solid foundation across key engineering disciplines. Year 2: Specialise in your chosen occupational specialism, deepening your expertise in a specific area of engineering. Entry Requirements: To enrol, you will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 5 or above, including English and Maths at a minimum of grade 4. Prepare for a career in engineering and manufacturing with a T Level that combines academic learning, practical skills, and real-world industry experience.

Career options

There are different pathways which are available to you following the successful completion of your T Level Technical Qualification in Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing Options to consider include: Applying to university - Your T-level will be worth UCAS points -- A T-level at Distinction is worth the same as 3 A levels at A* -- and will be recognised by universities and other education providers so you can choose to continue studying if you wish. Specialise with an Apprenticeship Work in your occupational specialism.

There are so many different areas of engineering to work in; however, most engineers choose to specialise in just one, such as chemical, automotive or robotics.  Careers in engineering are constantly evolving and new processes and technologies are being developed all the time.  This allows engineers to stay on the ball and react to new problems and challenges in their chosen career.

Engineering careers are constantly varied in terms of their job responsibilities, but also in their working locations.  As an engineer you could be working in an office, in a laboratory, on an oil rig, in a factory or on a race track.

Each engineering discipline requires professionals with very specific skill-sets.  However each and every area of this sector is as complex as the next.  Consequently, all engineers need to have strong mathematical skills, logic and the ability to rise to intellectual and practical challenges.
