Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 - 3 including a grade 4 in either maths or English and a Level 1 qualification.

Teaching staff

A team of professional lecturers who have considerable experience within the construction and civil engineering industry. We work closely with major employers such as Willmott Dixon, Bam, Balfour Beatty, The Bre, HERTs CC and offer qualifications in construction management up to level 5. Assessment

Candidates are assessed by a variety of methods, including case studies, assignments, presentations, observation, and practical test. There are no summative written exams for this course, however in some Units, your knowledge may be formatively assessed through in class tests.

About the course

Enrolling now for September 2024 start. Students will gain a wide range of construction knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios. Students are involved in vocational activities that help them to develop behaviours (the attitudes and approaches required for a competence) and transferable skills. Mandatory units are designed to cover the body of content that employers and educators within the sector consider essential for 14'19-year-old learners. By the end of this course students will be get Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Construction and the Built Environment which will allow entry onto the Level 3 T-Level in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction. GCSE English at minimum grade 4 to progress into T-Levels.

Career options

On successful completion of this transition year and achieving a minimum of Grade 4 in GCSE English, students can progress onto the full T-Level in Design Surveying and Planning following pathways - Civil Engineering, Surveying and Building Services. When students complete a full T-Level study programme, they can choose between moving into a skilled occupation or further study, such as higher or degree apprenticeship, higher technical study, or university. Typical career paths will be to become members of one of the UK construction institutions such as the Institution of Civil Engineers, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Chartered Institute of Builders, Chartered Institute to Building Services Engineers

Successful completion of the Extended Diploma in Construction can lead to progression on to the HNC in Construction or other Higher Education courses or alternatively into employment within the construction and property industry.

Course Content - What will I learn?

By the end of this course students will be get Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Award Certificate in Construction and the Built Environment which will allow entry onto the Level 3 T-Level in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction. Units to be covered: - Construction Technology - Construction Design (external Examination) - Scientific and mathematical applications for construction - Construction drawing techniques.
Attendance: 2 to 3 days / week and 30 hours of work experience. Equipment- No special equipment is necessary although a scale rule, scientific calculator and basic stationery will be beneficial. For site visits a pair of safety boots is advised. Hard hats and reflective safety clothing are provided for student use.
