Student Advice Services

At Oaklands College, we strive to ensure a positive experience for all students, recognising that challenges may arise during your journey. Our dedicated Student Advisors are here to assist with any issues you may encounter.

Where to Find Us

We have specialist student advice teams located at both our Welwyn Garden City and St Albans campuses. They provide support for a wide range of matters, from academic difficulties and travel issues to personal concerns such as relationships and health. You can reach out via phone or email at info@oaklands.ac.uk or call 01727 737000.

Here to Help

Our Student Advice team offers impartial guidance through phone, email, or in-person drop-ins. They can refer you for a more in-depth consultation with specialists and provide advice at various venues in the local area as well as on campus.

Career Services

Thinking about your future? Our one-to-one career guidance sessions are free, confidential, and tailored to your interests. We cover career options, CV writing, job applications, apprenticeships, and interview preparation.

Following your interview, you'll receive a written summary and, if needed, referrals to appropriate organisations. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Advice Centre at 01727 737000.

Help & Guidance

Our approachable Student Support team is here to assist students across a variety of areas, including:

If you're struggling with your coursework, our Additional Learning Support (ALS) team is available to help you access the necessary resources. After assessing your support needs, we will implement tailored strategies to assist you in your studies.
Our specialist tutors can work with you individually, in small groups, or remotely via Microsoft Teams. For assistance with Exam Access Arrangements, please contact us with the required evidence.
For advice regarding Special Educational Needs, please reach out to our SEN Coordinator, Roxanne Lowe at Roxanne.Lowe@oaklands.ac.uk.
We offer a range of courses designed to support students with diverse needs, helping them gain independence at home, in the community, and in the workplace.
Our Student Advisors, located in the main welcome areas of each campus, are your go-to resource for a variety of issues, including:
  • Attendance and course difficulties

If you’re facing mental health challenges, please contact the Hertfordshire Partnership Foundation Trust at 0800 6444 101. This 24/7 helpline can direct you to various specialist services based on your needs. The Wellbeing Service provides short-term support for individuals aged 16 and over experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues.
Our Student Advisors can also help with personal issues outside college, including relationship problems and home life challenges. Accessing support early can empower you to thrive in your environment, actively contribute to solutions, and build on your strengths.
